Patricia ToddSummary/Synopsis: This bill would provide for an amendment to Section 46 of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901 to limit a legislator to a maximum of three consecutive terms of office commencing on or after November 2014. The limitation would apply to service in either the House or the Senate, but would not apply to the period served to fill the unexpired term caused by a vacancy for any reason.

Summary/Synopsis: This bill would propose an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901 that would provide that no person shall be elected to the senate or to the house of representatives for more than three full terms in the senate and three full terms in the house of representatives. Further, the amendment would provide that an election to the senate or to the house of representatives for at least two years would be equivalent to the election of such person for a full term in such body. The amendment would provide that service in the senate and in the house of representatives prior to November 8, 2006 would not disqualify, in whole or in part, such person from service in such bodies following such date.
