Voting Access and Process, including Voting Rights Restoration and Voter Suppression

HB50 - Absentee voting, inmate identification card valid form of ID to vote absentee, Sec. 17-9-30 am'd.

Sponsor(s):  Representative Hall

Synopsis and Analysis:  Under existing law, a voter who is entitled to vote by absentee ballot is required to submit a form of identification.
This bill would add a valid inmate identification card or other form of identification to the list of acceptable forms of identification to vote by absentee ballot.

This would be beneficial as it would expand voting rights to those currently incarcerated that are not prohibited from the Moral Turpitude Act.

League Action and Justification: Support. LWVAL and LWVUS believe in expanding voting rights and ending voter suppression. Allowing inmates to have an acceptable form of ID so that they may vote absentee is expanding voting rights and ending voter suppression.
