Who is eligible to join?

Membership in the League of Women Voters is open to anyone (men, women, non-binary), 16 years of age or older.

Why should I join?

You will gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics. Through participation in local League projects, you will contribute valuable service to the community. You will discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in Alabama. As you meet others in League who share your interests, you will make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships.

How much time does it take?

It's up to you! We are a grassroots organization and your active participation is encouraged. However, many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns. You may choose to participate in a group study, participate in online discussions, or simply read about League activities in one of our publications. Bottom line… we welcome and encourage your active participation in voter service, citizen education, or advocacy on issues, but your level of participation is up to you.

What do I get?

In addition to your membership in the League of Women Voters of Alabama (LWVAL), you automatically become a member of the League of Women Voters of the United States. You will also receive the LWVAL Voter (newsletter of the LWVAL) which is usually published monthly. You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong.
